What is PTSD

PTSD is short for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The American Psychiatric Association defines PTSD in the 5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, DSM-5, as “...comprised of four clusters of symptoms including intrusive and recurrent memories of the trauma, avoidance of trauma-related stimuli, numbing and/or negative changes in mood or cognitions pertaining to the trauma, and changes in reactivity and arousal.”

Veteran's Interviews

I interviewed some veterans to see what it was like to live with PTSD.

"I mean, it took me seven years, seven years before I felt comfortable in society." I Immediately came out and everything was a threat to me."

"We just didn't hear anything about that stuff. I mean, you heard about Shell Shock, but nobody talked anything about it."

"I constantly avoid people, places, and things that remind me of my traumatic experiences. I still have nightmares."
